Invitation: A Politics of Friendship Salon
A live recording of The Liberalism.org Show with Roger Berkowitz on friendship, disagreement, and liberal democracy on Tuesday, October 13 at the National Press Club.

Hello,
With appreciation for your ongoing support of Liberalism.org, I’m pleased to invite you to join my colleague Michael Brodrick at the National Press Club on October 13 for a live recording of The Liberalism.org Show featuring Roger Berkowitz, director of the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College and author of A World We Share: Hannah Arendt and the Power of Friendship in a Broken World (Yale University Press, 2026).
Political disagreement is not merely a failure to listen politely to one another. We often disagree about matters of real moral consequence. About what government should do, what people owe one another, and even about the boundaries of a shared political community. Drawing on Hannah Arendt, Berkowitz argues for something more demanding than civility: a politics of friendship in which citizens can argue openly and sometimes fiercely while still sustaining a common world together.
Michael’s conversation with Professor Berkowitz will explore how a politics of friendship can help sustain liberal democracy amid today’s deep divisions.
The event takes place at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13. A limited number of books will be available for signing.
Schedule:
7:00 PM - Registration and Reception with Hors d’Oeuvres
7:45 PM - Studio Seating Opens
8:00 PM - Live Podcast Recording
8:30 PM - Q&A with Roger
9:00 PM - Conclusion
If you are available to join us, please RSVP here.

Aaron Ross Powell
